Youth is the brain child of Luke Foskey. With a sound not easily pidgeon-holed into a particular subgenre of dance music, this young producer is bringing back aspects of music long forgotten in this fast changing industry. Youth cites influences ranging from a variety of different artists such as the godfather of synthesizer-disco Georgio Moroder to 80’s electro-pop master Paul Hardcastle.
Not just a producer, Luke also began djing at 15 years old playing old electro-pop and disco records he bought from op-shops next to modern dance and hiphop records. This style of selection has played a key role in how he has developed his sets over the years, with a style which sees classics mixed in with modern contemporaries, it is a throwback to the cosmic and balearic mixing styles of old.
Formally known as Dyce, Luke’s first bootleg remix to hit the music blogs in early 2008 was heavily traded, it even reached the hands of famed turntablist DJ Craze who used it on his highly regarded FabricLive radio mix. Luke was soon commissioned to do a remix for the popular Australian band Damn Arms.
Famed music site discobelle soon commissioned a mix off of Luke for their highly regarded mixin’ it up series. Soon after this he was commissioned for a remix of one of Australia’s largest electro acts, Sneaky Sound System for their hit ‘When We Were Young’.
Luke’s remix for Gold Coast indie band Panther DLX was used as the main title track for the May 2008 ASL Surf Magazine DVD which saw his production pressed to 50,000 dvds.
With a slew of new remix’s coming out soon, and an original EP in the works with New York label Flagrant Fowl, this young DJ has a promising future ahead of him.
